Amsterdam East is hot! This exciting part of the city is thriving with new venues and shops opening every week. Pop-up stores, concept stores and experimental food are found everywhere in this part of town. The epicenter of this thriving part of town is the Oosterparkbuurt. Here a beautiful park, enchanting Amsterdam buildings and modern concept stores meet.
The Oosterparkbuurt is only a short stroll from the Plantage area. Here you will find the Hortus Botanicus and Artis Royal Zoo. When visiting these places it is a great idea to take a detour to this less-discovered part of town. Because there are not as much museums and restaurants in the area it is less frequented by tourists. This makes it the perfect spot to discover the life of locals!
Spending the day in the Oosterpark Buurt
With the University of Applied Sciences in this area it is best to described as a young, more experimental and fast moving part of town. Shops that open today could be gone the next as pop-up stores are really booming. With so many things to see and do it is really worth it to spend some good time in this part of town. Visit one of the many coffee bars, the Tropenmuseum, the Oosterpark and shop at one of the many concept stores in the area. Besides that the Oosterparkbuurt is also home to the Dappermarkt, one of the best markets in the city. Here they offer general wares, food, clothing and everything that will sell actually. The market is over 100 years old and is the most multi-cultural market in the city!
When visiting this area don’t forget to take a stroll to the newly renovated Oosterpark itself. Besides that the area is home to the Willem Witsen House and the Children’s Museum.
The Wibautstraat is the main road going through this part of town. Here you find hot restaurants such as Restaurant C, Drovers Dog 3 and The Commons, hotels and concept stores. The Wibautstraat is striving for an avenue look and feel and with every passing year it is succeeding more and more!
